Hello friends, I hope everyone had a safe 4th of July with few incidences. Back on this writing train and I went a little deeper for it so I hope you are ready. Everyone has one or should have one., and I’m not talking about fitness, I’m talking about anything you’re doing that takes commitment. Those of us in the fitness industry, for the most part, are here because we want to have a positive impact on someone else’s day. A friend of mine said, when clients come in, we should be the best part of their day and I wholeheartedly agree with that. Even deeper than that, has to be something that is driving a coach. Myself, I have two main reasons what I do. As a young athlete, learning how to lift, I was not properly coached on form with many of the movements. It was something to the tune of, here do this and that’s about the most I got. The biggest issue I can recall was with my squats, someone that’s already tight, improper form made things much worse, and I felt it in my knees down the road. So, my first reason for why is, I want people (especially young people) coached on how to properly lift weights and how to address problematic pains when they arise, because they will.
The second part of my why so people know how to look after themselves. When I was in college, I hit a really rough stage in my life. I was not healthy, I was not very focused (on anything good at least) and I was lacking direction, shocker. My internship with the Strength and Conditioning team at UMaine was one of the biggest and best things that happened to me, certainly up to that point. The coaches there not only taught be about coaching, but also taught me about taking care of myself, I was only 23 and probably felt like I was 43 when I start with them. The learnings about coaching and looking after myself eventually led way to figuring out what I wanted to be in life. The target has since shifted, but it got me on a path for myself that has gotten me here today. To summarize, I do this because; 1) I want to be sure no one hurts themselves. 2) I want people to know how to take care of themselves so they can reach their goals, fitness or otherwise. The why’s will always pull you through the tough times and make the good times feel even better. That's as deep as we go today friends, thoughts, comments, feedback in general, welcome as always. Have a good day and see you back here next week.
